A Coin Dealer Should Have Some of These Qualities
Many times, when we research a coin dealer that we want to use, we will look at factors such as his experience, his knowledge of the field, which association he is affiliated to and so on. We should also remember to look into his association with other dealers and whether the other dealers respect him and his establishment.
You might want to stay away from a dealer who does not get positive reviews from his peers, and one who is said to have a bad reputation. We are told not to let popular opinion cloud our judgment of character, but always remember this is a decision you are making regarding whether or not you can do business with this person. They could be the greatest of people socially, but the worst when it comes down to doing business.
You should always be honest about your concerns and feel free to look at other establishments before you make a final decision. Many of the big coin dealing establishments employ coin dealers to work there, and you will not find the owner working there. Don’t be shy; ask around about the dealer who has been assigned to you. You want to find out about his track record, have people followed him to this establishment? Has he got the interests of the collector at heart? Has this coin dealer been hopping from one establishment to another? And why?
Because you probably want to invest a tidy sum of money, it’s always good to know who is going to help you in and out. Be free when asking about the coin dealers in your area, feel free to even look them up on the internet, or even call around.
