Any advice for selling a coin collection myself?
My mom has tasked me with finding a way to sell her coin collection. I’ve browsed the internet a bit, and it seems like I would get a much better deal simply selling the coins at current market value myself, elimination the coin dealer’s profits. I’m not expecting a push this button and you’ll be rich kind of thing, I do expect to do some work(just not like 40 hours a week, but a reasonable amount). From my mom’s papers, it says she has some Amer. Revolution BiCentennial(1976), Canadian Uncirculated(1965-1971), Eisenhower Proof dollar(1971,72,74), Eisenhower uncirculated silver(1971,72), Uncirculated(1964-1976), US Proof Coin(1962-64), US Proof Set(1968-1977), and US Special Mint Set(1965-67). Some of the things have the listing repeated, so I assume it’s multiple copies. Again, I’m not asking for the work to be done for me, I’m only asking for some advice as to what work I should do to sell it myself, if it can be done with reasonable effort. I’d also rather not do an auction, as the price can be way below value or above value, but there’s no way to really tell ahead of time, as far as I know. I’m not really able to drive super far(like halfway across the country, for example) from where I am(Plainfield/Romeoville area in Illinois, near Chicago), but I can still drive a decent distance, like maybe half of Illinois(preferably not, as gas IS expensive). I thank you for any advice you can give me, or maybe even offer for the coins yourself if you’re so inclined, but I do intend to check the general current prices.

Most of the coins you mentioned are common and not worth much more than a couple of dollars each per set. If you don’t want to sell by auction like ebay or bring them to a coin dealer, you have very few options. You could advertise in the paper but that could be a security problem. I suggest that you contact a local coin club for help. The members would be glad to advise you about value and where to sell. You can get a list of coin clubs from the American Numismatic association (coins.com).
You should also have some idea of value before you sell. I suggest that you go to a local library and look up the value of your coins with the Guide Book of US Coins. Remember that the prices listed are retail prices and not the price you would expect to get when selling.
Good luck
