Do I have a misprinted coin?
when i visited the canadian mint in manitoba, i recieved some fifty cent pieces in change. if you look closely at one, there are no little dots around the edge on either side like the other two. its a 50th anniversary of queen elizibeth and says 1952-2002 under the crest. also there is a little p under the queen. is it possible they missed a step or something? it just looks unfinished.

There were actually two 50 cent pieces struck for circulation that year. One has the beading around the edge, and the other does not.
If the front of yours looks like this:http://www.allnationsstampandcoin.com/images/sales/coins/qe50co.jpg then you’ve got the design without the beading.
If it looks more like this one: http://www.cointalk.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=613&stc=1&thumb=1&d=1285599529 (except with the dual date), then you’ve got the coin that should have the beading.
If you’ve got the second one, I’m not sure what would have caused the missing beading, but not cause any other problems with the die. All the elements on a coin are struck into it at the same time, so it would have taken some weird thing where the beading on both dies got clogged up with something, but nothing else on the coin. I’m betting you’ve got the first one.
And I agree with you-it looks somehow unfinished, especially the reverse of the coin.
