How do I clean off this coin?
When cleaning out our basement I found some coin (I think its british based on the coat of arms thing) thats really dirty. Its probably nickel plated. What kind of acid/cleaning solution should i soak it in to clean off all the crap off of it without damaging the coin? And whats a good solution for doing the same with a canadian dollar (bronze plated)?
BTW they arent rare/uber valuable coins, and I’m not a real coin collector. I just wanna see what it is and where its from.

Rinse the coin under cold water then soak it in white vinegar for a few minutes. Then rinse if it is clean enough just dry it other wise pour some malt vinegar over it, wash it off after about 10 min then scrub with a tooth brush.Rinse again..
Or a very simple way is to soak it in coke or pepsi.
Although this may not work on all coins (it has worked for me in the past)
wipe ur but with it
lemon juice, or CLR (a calcium, lime, rust remover you can buy at the store in the cleaning aisle)
Putting them in Diet Coke might work; I’ve used it on regular coins and it cleaned them pretty well.
I’ve heard that people clean coins with coke. Believe it or not.
At the store buy some brass or silver polish (either will work just was well) Use with a soft cloth.
if it is plated it is not a standard British coin. you could try CLR(calcium Lime and Rust remover) or Bicarb soda with a bit of water
but be very careful all acids will affect the finnish of a coin especially copper alloys.
the gold bronze coloured coins require a bit of experiment as they are affected by chemicals much more than silver coins. try a few products , till you get the desired result.
Some coins will not improve a great deal.
