1 - Take your coin to a local coin dealer (trustworthy ones can be found - shop around). It never hurts to get a second opinion. They will be able to tell you so much more by evaluation the condition of the coins. They will also know the amount minted and what it is going for in today’s market.
2 - Try posting pictures on this website (there are many experts here that can help you evaluate it - there also may be people willing to buy if you are trying to sell):
3 - Repost this question and include pictures. You can use websites like and include the link in your question.
Good luck!
In grade fine-only slight detail in hair above the ear the coin trends for .75 cents. In grade very fine-hair is clear but not sharp $3 and in grade extra fine-slight wear in hair over ears other hair sharp $14. Trend prices are an average of what a coin sells for retail, dealers pay much less, 40%-50% less.
The same website also gives you the value of the Canadian nickel. View this address here and scroll to the bottom of the page and you’ll find value listings of the 1931 date:

G-VG means worn condition, F-VF is about average, XF-AU refers to coins with sharper details and some luster, while UNC is mint state.
They made 3.9 million and the next one that’s worth a lot they only made 900,000. So if it’s in great shape uncirculated it is worth maybe $80 but you would have to sell to person. Anyway get a holder for it and right now put it tissue paper. That is a neat looking coin and how many are still in that shape after76 years.
