Is this coin worth anything?
I have a Canadian 5 cent coin from 1927. It has King GeorgeIVS DEI GRA. REX ET IND:IMP clearly legible on the back, as well as a portrait. All words and lines are very clearly present.
The coin is in great condition, no stains, dents, cuts etc. Also, I am completely unaware of wether or not it is silver…how can I check without going to a professional?

It is a copper/nickel composition, no silver.
‘Great’ condition does not exist when it comes to coins. Coins are graded at specific levels according to the degree of wear they have. Stains, dents, cuts and scratches all have the potential to lower an otherwise uncirculated coin (no circulation wear) by three grade levels or more, and most collectors will pass on coins with these flaws, unless they are very rare in any condition.
The 1927 Canada nickel is not rare in circulated condition. Condition needs to be determined by a professional, or you can familiarize yourself with grading this, or any particular coin, by reading books on the subject.
A coin that falls in the grade range of Fine to Extra Fine is currently selling from $2 - $10. Uncirculated examples in the professionally-certified mid-Mint State uncirculated grade of MS64 are selling in the $175 - $200 range.
It is hard to say. Just like old dimes it may be silver so it is worth at least a few dollars, but depending on where it was minted, condition(if there is little detail, stained. but some can go for over 40 dollars.
