What are people's thoughts on this new $5 coin?

I hear that Canada is replacing their lovely blue dollar note with a coin, just like they changed the note with a Toonie. Are Canadians happy with this, or are they annoyed? Why do you think they are replacing the note with a coin? Is it because of a weak currency?

Does anyone know if the Canadian nickel was ever dyed/coated with copper? Which years?

Why do Canadian and American coins have the same shapes and circumferences?

It seems odd that each denomination of coin is exactly the same in circumference as its counterpart on the opposite side of the border. Why does the Royal Canadian Mint want us to collect coins?

I’m always seeing commercials from the Royal Canadian Mint urging Canadians to collect and keep coins (like the 2010 winter games quarters that are out right now).
Coins that are collected are effectively taken out of circulation and never used as currency so I’m wondering what the Mint (or anyone else) stands to gain from doing this.
