Our neighbours of 6 years have always been kind to me but there has never been a closeness since I have always been working full time. I’m in a very demanding job, I have a university degree and I live in a complete different world than them. They’re nice but we never had much in common. But we had a good relation, until…..
As a child, I went to vocal training and piano lessons, and I never stopped during all these years. I have a classical voice education but I never planned on doing something professionally. When I was 18, I started to do opera performances at very special occasions, small occasions at selected events. Only twice a year for charity organised by the Austrian Embassy (I’m half-half), and once a year with the Vienna Philharmonics in Vienna. But I’m a total no-name. Nobody knows me and that suits me just right. I do it for pleasure and to help. It’s been great for 30 years now. Until last year when I received my dress for the event. It had been sent by courier from Vienna, and I had to alternate it a bit. And since the seamstress at the theatre was very busy, I asked my next door neighbour who’s also one whether she would help me with this. She was nice and said sure she would, and she asked me about that really beautiful and special dress. So I told her that I’d need it for a performance in Vienna. - And ever since, she and her friend opposite (they’re of course all neighbours) shut the doors and windows as soon as I turn up or go into their house when I come along home. When asking them, they just say they have no time to talk or have another lame excuse. So I gave up and let them be.
But I still wonder why they are doing this. Has anybody an idea of what the matter could be?
Not directly. I heard my semastress neighbour telling the other one about the dress and what I needed it for. They then went inside her atelier and she showed it to her. (I can see that from my home office but that was ok for me. Nothing to hide.) They then came out again and the seamstress shrugged her shoulders, the other one shot a cross look towards our house, and their heads went back together. Somehow silly.
Thank you, Nick. Aren’t you loveley? Well, and people who only know Sting are annoying, too. Can’t they just widen their mental horizon a bit? Would be some start at least. Um yes, and some reading would do them good as well. It’s said to be good for understanding others. You can always ignore me if I’m so annoying to you.
