One thing that you’ll want to look into alongside experience, is whether the coin dealer you’re thinking of going with is knowledgeable in the area of coins which you want to dabble in.
You might not know at the moment which direction you want to take, but there will come a time when you do want to branch out into a certain area of coin collecting and at that point you’ll want a coin dealer who knows your type of coins.
That doesn’t mean that you should stay away from all coin dealers until you figure this out. In fact if you’re already buying coins that take your fancy then a good coin dealer relationship is very handy.
And when you finally hit upon the path that you want to take for the present moment in time, you can always ask them whether they’re experienced in that field, and if not, what are their recommendations for a coin dealer who knows that particular field of coinage.
